Happy Valley is Back!

“I’m Catherine, by the way. I’m forty-seven. I’m divorced. I live with my sister, who’s a recovering heroin addict. I’ve two grown-up children, one dead, one who don’t speak to me and a grandson.”
– Catherine Cawood

Blogging is about sharing what you’re excited about, right? Good, because my excitement has hit a new level. Happy Valley series 2 is finally airing tomorrow!

For those of you who have never heard of the show, I’m going to attempt to explain it to you.

Happy Valley is a British police/crime drama, set in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The show focuses on a Catherine Cawood, a female police sergeant (Played by Sarah Lancashire), who proves that women officers can do the job just as well as men. The first series followed Catherine’s work, having to deal with a kidnap case which becomes dangerously personal.  It also follows her personal life, looking after her re-covering drug addict Sister and Grandson, who isn’t welcomed by some of the family.

For me personally, the first series was one of the best pieces of British drama I’ve ever seen! I’m not really an expert on how to ‘review’ a show, but I know that I couldn’t find anything that I didn’t like about it. The writing of the storyline and characters is amazing. One of my favourite things about the show was just how realistic it was. I don’t often watch a show and get so involved that I have to remind myself that they are just characters, so huge praise to Sarah Lancashire & Sally Wainwright.

Anyway, Tuesday the 9th of Feb is the day! I have avoided looking too much into the second series because I don’t want to know whats going to happen. I do however know that the series begins with a body being found and aspects of the first series will run into the second!

One thing about the second series that I have looked at is the new additions to the cast, and I am super pleased! Amelia Bullmore, who played DCI Gill Murray in Scott and Bailey (another show that I love, also written by Sally Wainwright), will be joining! As if this wasn’t enough, Katherine Kelly will also bring a new aspect to the show as a new CID character!

It’s hard to explain how good the show is without giving away spoilers, so just give it a watch!

This post won’t be of huge interest to many, but I love the show so much, so had to write something about it!

Have a good day 🙂

Chris 🙂
