It’s been 2 years, 4 months and 12 days (or 20,734 hours), since I moved to Leeds for University! It is also the same amount of time since the first time I ever came to Yorkshire! Yes, I made the crazy decision to move 3 hours away to Uni, having never visited it or anywhere in Yorkshire. It was the best decision I’ve made though!
Anyway back to the point of this post; considering I have been here almost 3 years, I don’t feel as though I’ve really seen much of Yorkshire! For a while now I have been looking at various places to go and, this week Myself and Jess finally went to Otley Chevin Forest Park! Has anyone been before?
The weather definitely wasn’t on our side! It was quite cold, it rained on and off, and as it is higher up, the wind was ridiculous! (check out my Instagram to see just how windy it was) It was worth it for the views though!
I should also probably point out my photos aren’t the best because of the wind and the cloudy weather!
Anyway, back to the views! When you spend so much time living in built up areas or right in the heart of a city, it’s always quite nice to explore the countryside and see out for miles! I always find it quite strange being able to see whole towns/villages below. It’s a great place to go walking, especially if you prefer somewhere that is quiet! I imagine it to be busier on warm days however, we were walking for almost two hours and only saw 4 people in that time!
There are multiple car parks located at various points; The Surprise View car park would be my suggestion as it is meant to have the best views.
I quite liked that there was no ‘must follow’ route; you simply chose a path and walked. There are mud tracks, paved walks and stoney routes, which I think adds to the fun. It also means even in the winter weather, you can still go for a walk and not get filthy! Don’t go if it snows though; that’d be pretty dangerous.
The Royalty pub is also located the other side of the road from the car park, which is pretty nifty when you’ve finished walking, as they do hot drinks & food. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Yorkshire Tea, which is definitely my favourite, however we were both pretty cold that it didn’t really matter.
I guess the whole point of this is; if you’re in West Yorkshire and fancy a walk, visit Otley Chevin Forest Park! I think Jess is also planning to do a post about the day so keep your eyes peeled on her blog!
I’ve posted some more pictures and videos from the day on my Instagram 🙂
Have a good day!
